Concrete & Terrazzo Polishing
The beauty and ease of maintenance of polished concrete have been becoming increasingly popular among homeowners and businesses. A concrete floor is a blank canvas. Whether you add travertine, Ceramic, or decorative stains and polishes directly to the floor, you are in control. Old floors tend to have some imperfections, however many of these can be overcome and seen to add character to the finished look.
Concrete Polishing includes
Grinding and polishing
Staining and Color treatments
Sureshine has been polishing concrete and terrazzo for decades. We performed our first polishing project in 2003 and have since done hundreds of large and small concrete polishing projects including some large malls in Southern California. Over the years as the concrete polishing industry has matured and come out with numerous shortcuts to a polish, we have held fast to our commitment to creating real long-term value for our concrete polishing customers. Because of our endless pursuit of long-term customer value, Sureshine has not adopted recent less expensive shortcut methods to get to a polish. The process described below detail the steps necessary to provide a highly reflective long-lasting finish to your concrete floors.
Surface Prep • Grinding • Polishing
The concrete surface prep process is just as it sounds. Concrete surface prep includes the filling and preparation of cracks and holes to match the existing surface as possible as well as the removal of carpet glue, black mastic, and anything else that is on the surface. Occasionally, surface prep can include the removal of carpet and other debris from the surface, but it is always less expensive to hire a demolition and removal contractor for that type of service.
Concrete Polishing is the process of refining the surface to the desired level of shine. This is where the concrete surface is profiled from a rough starting condition to a smooth and highly polished finish. This process is performed using successive diamond grits and pads to achieve the highest level of shine attainable for your surfaces.
Densifier and Guard
Surface Prep • Grinding • Polishing
Densifier is applied to react with the surface and create a hard, highly durable and maintainable finish. Sureshine uses one of two high-quality densifiers depending on your needs. While this service is not required, it is highly recommended for you to achieve a finish that will last.
Guard has become an industry-wide norm for protecting the finished surface from both traffic and acid-containing liquids. While guard will not prevent etching, it does slow it down and will usually provide time to remove a spill from the surface. Guard can be requested for any concrete polishing project at an additional cost.

You have the option to create truly decorative beauty with your concrete surfaces. Whether its applying color, cutting or embossing your logo into the material, your surface is limited only by your imagination. Send us pictures and ideas and we can provide a budget number.

Glass Polishing and Sealing Treatments
Over the years we have seen a lot of glass shower door surrounds that become cloudy with minerals from water spray. Even when the glass is treated from the factory, the repeated use of a squeegee will degrade the surface to the point that it can become cloudy.
Sureshine can add years to the beauty and the useful life of your shower glass.
This service is an affordable addition to any project or a stand-alone service. We have been polishing shower and other glass for more than 10 years and have restored 1000’s of shower surrounds to like new condition.
How do we polish your glass?
We use a mild abrasive glass polishing compound and a few special techniques to get the most out of your shower glass. Then it’s time for the real value. We seal your shower glass with a reactive polymer that literally makes the surface smoother. This smooth tight surface is super “hydrophobic”. This means that water beads high and will fall of the glass. After your shower you simply wipe your glass with a towel and clean it one time per week with a repellent wash that is readily available and inexpensive.
Daily, weekly, and yearly maintenance suggestions for your shower glass can be found here.
Granite Repair, Cleaning, Polishing, & Sealing
Granite has steadily become the surface of choice for stone counters. Granite is easy to clean, does not etch with acids, and if sealed properly will not stain. But there are times when when your granite surfaces need attention.
Granite Clean Polish & Seal
Over time a heavily used granite counter space can become dulled by the constant abrasion of porcelain dishes, metal hardware, and other implements. When this happens the surface needs to be polished. This is done using specialized tooling and polishes. Once the surface is brought back to a polish it is detailed and sealed. Your newly polished granite will last for years.
Granite Cracks and other Repairs:
Cracks around the sinks happen when a steel rod has been placed in the granite for strength around the sink hole begins to corrode and expand. Water intrusion causes the steel to expand as it rusts. These cracks run parallel to the sink and can manifest along the front or rear sink rails and sometimes both. in many cases these cracks can not be permanently repaired. At Sureshine our owner has developed a method of repair that will extend the life of your counters.
Granite Crack repairs can occur two ways:
Some cracks allow us to break pieces off of the counter, exposing the rod. We then cut and extract as much of the rod as possible. Sometimes the entire rod is removable. When this is the case, the crack will not occur again. The repaired area may need maintenance over time but the cost for this is minimal.
Here is an example of a project that allowed us to remove the rod:
If the rod can not be exposed, cut, and removed without causing further damage, the Epoxy Injection Method is used. The crack is cleaned out, dried with a torch or heat gun, and epoxy is injected into the crack in an attempt to coat the rod and hold the counter together. We use a real two part epoxy adhesive for this. Beware companies that use “flowing” or “penetrating” resins. These are not real epoxies and will break down around water.
Here is a video discussing three recent Injection Method repairs.
After the adhesive repairs are completed, the surface is ground flat and polished. We then use aesthetic glues and pigments to match the repaired area to the surface as possible. Some granite surfaces with a lot of movement can not be matched perfectly. Most repairs are visible when standing directly over them and looking for them and blend with the surface from an angle in the reflection.
Here is another video that details the repair of a large crack in an Uba Tuba granite counter.
Granite Chip and Hole Filling and Repair
From the smallest texture to large chips and holes, Sureshine fills it all with state of the art UV cured adhesive along with other fillers and epoxies. This chip was filled using Fill-a-Chip UV curable adhesive. The repair is a permanent, impact resistant, polishable surface that can be color matched to almost any stone. Fill-a-chip repairs are almost invisible.
By following our easy suggestions you can keep your countertops looking beautiful for years. And Sureshine is just a phone call away to answer any granite related question you might have.
The most commonly asked question about granite is, “How often do I have to seal my granite?”
Upon evaluation Sureshine can provide easy answers to all of your granite related questions. Because each granite is different and every application is different the rule of thumb has been one time per year with a high quality penetrating sealer. However, many dark granite counters will require less attention than light colors or those approaching white. If you have concerns regarding your granite, please call us or go to the Evaluation Request form so we can call you and set up a personalized appointment.

Marble Travertine Limestone Polishing & Cleaning
Marble Travertine Limestone Polishing & Cleaning
For the past 25 years, Sureshine has specialize in marble travertine & limestone polishing & cleaning. The most common service performed on these surfaces are Deep Cleaning or Refinishing.
You may have heard from others that you should “seal your surfaces every year” or “have your floors polished every year.” This is nonsense. After your surfaces are restored, by following the maintenance suggestions for each surface in our Stone Care Guide you should get three years and some times as many as five years between services. Our mission is always to add real value to our customers’ lives.
Choosing your service
1. Deep Cleaning
Deep Cleaning is an intensive cleaning of the stone and grout using our proprietary combination of environmentally safe chemistry and hot water. We use a clean and capture system, which means we are able to blast the surface hot water at a pressure that is safe for the stone while at the same time loosening the the dirt and debris and extracting it from the surface. The use of hot water extraction allows Sureshine to seal your surfaces the same day with our high quality impregnating sealer. On travertine and other porous surfaces we can also fill holes and patch missing grout as necessary.
Refinishing is the restoration of the existing finish or if desired, increasing or decreasing the level of shine. During the stone refinishing or restoration process, deep cleaning is also performed because the surface is wet sanded to remove etches and scratches. Once the existing damage is removed the newly exposed surface is then restored to the desired shine using fine abrasives and polishing powders as necessary. Sureshine offers three levels of finish, these levels are described below. After the refinishing process is complete and we have achieved the level shine that you requested, our team then details the surface and applies our high quality impregnating sealer. We then fill holes and patch missing grout as needed.
Know Your finish
A honed finish as explained in the Easy Stone Care seminars that our owner teaches, is any level of shine between a flat and a polish. We have stayed away from the term honed because it is too ambiguous. The finishes that we offer are polished, satin, and matte.
Polished Marble, Travertine, and Limestone
A polished surface has the highest attainable reflection. In his book, “The Stone Care Guide,” our owner describes a polished finish as having a clear reflection with depth when looking into the stone from an 80-90 degree angle. Depth is the distance the reflection provides and clarity describes ability to clearly see the reflected object. For instance, our goal when polishing marble is to be able to read the wattage in the light bulb. While it is true that incandescent bulbs are no longer in fashion, out teams work hard to create the maximum amount of depth and clarity in each surface that we polished. When considering a polished finish, it is important to know the limits of your material. Most surface can achieve a high mirror-like reflection. Some materials have soft spots and natural areas of haziness. If you are unsure if your marble, travertine, or limestone surfaces can achieve a high even finish, give us a call. We will be happy to advise you.
Satin Finish Marble, Travertine, and Limestone
Satin is the most common finish for travertine and limestone floors because it appears more polished at an angle but tends not to show scratches and mild etches that occur with everyday use. Most customers are able to get three years or more between services when a satin finish is properly maintained. Please see out maintenance suggestions for recommended methods and products to keep your Satin finish MTL surfaces looking their best.
Matte Finish Marble, Travertine, and Limestone
The Matte finish is the most common finish for textured materials and porous surfaces such as limestone and tumbled travertine. We will often recommend a matte finish for surfaces where slip resistance is a concern. When others in the industry say honed finish, they are usually referring to this type of finish.

Saltillos & Mexican Pavers
Your Saltillos lend an old world feel to your home. They are easy to clean and easy to maintain by applying waxes and polishes for many years. And now you can see the build up. You can see the evidence of many coats of wax. The grout lines have become black and the tiles seam to have darkened. This is the aging sequence of your saltillo tiles. Somewhere along the way the surface went from looking antiqued and beautiful, to aged and unsightly.
Sureshine has been helping homeowners return their saltillos to at or near the original look for years. You can literally start over and have that beautiful antiqued look back. And as time goes by your floors will age naturally again.

Tile and Grout Cleaning
Floor – Tile & Grout Cleaning
Keeping your tile and grout floors clean can be a daunting task. Over time you mop your floors and spot clean spills and no matter how many time you clean your floors, the gout lines seam to get dirtier. This is a common problem and Sureshine has the solution. We use a hot water extraction method to thoroughly clean and sanitize your tile and grout floor surfaces.
Our method is beyond thorough, we use 240 degree water and just enough pressure to loosen and extract the soiling from your grout and tile. We then clean all of the edges, under toe kicks, around doorways, and other areas of your tile floors that are hard to reach.
Once your tile and grout surfaces are clean and dry you have two sealer types to choose from.
- Clear Sealer: is a premium penetrating grout sealer that sinks into the grout and once cured, locks out stains for years. This is the most common choice when discussing sealers.
- Color-Sealer: is a premium urethane grout sealer that can be color matched to your liking. Cement grout can have tonal differences in color when cleaned. This occurs from original curing as well as exposure to water and other cleaning chemicals over time. Our color-sealer takes care of these tonal difference by creating a seamless look from wall to wall to wall. Most of the time color sealer is not necessary but does guarantee a perfect looking grout.
Color Sealer installed by Sureshine is warrantied not to stain for 5 years. This warranty is limited to staining and does require periodic maintenance cleaning by Sureshine.
Bathrooms – Showers, Counters, & Small Surfaces
Our vapor cleaners kill bacteria, mold, and other microbes on contact and cut through heavy scaling and buildup that other cleaning methods do not even affect. Our vapor cleaners have been tested to kill 99.89% of microbes with 7 seconds of exposure and virtual eradication with 30 seconds of exposure to our steam system. Scientific reports available upon request.
What does this mean for you?
Quality of Life: First you will not be exposed to heavy chemicals during the project. While a single chemical exposure does not harm most healthy people, we feel that if we can reduce the exposure as much as possible it adds to the long-term quality of life for both our customers and our employees.
Faster Projects: Our investment in vapor cleaning technology reduces the time necessary for our technicians to be in your home. This allows us to finish our job faster and your family to go on with your busy schedule.
Job Quality: Our vapor cleaners kill the microbes on your tile and vaporize the dirt in your grout and tile surfaces. When we are finished we can confidently say that the dirt is gone. If your grout is discolored, stained, or damaged under the dirt we have removed, we can then discuss replacement or patching. Our only goal is to provide the most value to you as possible.
